WHAT IS a GICLEE PRINT? Giclee is a print of higher quality and longer durability than a standard desktop inkjet print, used for common digital reproductions of artworks, painting or photographs. A giclee print must be printed on acid free 100% cotton canvas in a high resolution at least 300 dpi (dots per inch). This is to ensure that the final piece has the sharpest detail and lacks any of the fragmentation that can occur with images with lower resolution. For giclee printing must be used a printer with pigment-based inks rather than the dye-based inks found in lower cost inkjets. Pigment-based inks have a longer life span that can last anywhere from 100 to 200 years without fading. The quality of the giclee prints is commonly found in museums and art galleries.
