After His glorious Resurrection, Jesus continued his earthly appearances to His disciples for forty days, which intensified and strengthened their faith in the fact of the Resurrection. In His repeated appearances, He showed them His scars, ate with them, and even discussed the prophecies He fulfilled with His life and passions. On the fortieth day, he led his disciples with the Virgin to the Mount of Olives, where they used to pray. There, after saying goodbye to them and blessing them for the last time, He raised His hands and ascended to heaven. As the Holy Apostles gazed dazzlingly at the sky, two angels appeared in human form, sent by the Lord. Their task was to comfort the disciples at this critical time and inform them that their currently invisible Lord would henceforth stand at the right hand of His Father – but also that He would return to earth to judge all men, the living and the dead. The event of the Ascension of Christ is celebrated 39 days after Easter.
